Reply with quote | #1 | Jason,
Is the four person co-ed category the premire division at BHC or is it similar to Castlewood in that all teams are competing against each other for the overall? Additionally, is this event a national qualifier as it was in the past? Thanks.

Reply with quote | #2 | I'm not Jason, and I can't comment on what the premiere division is going to be. However, here is his reply in a previous thread regarding the Chill being a national qualifier:
"We are not going to make the Bonk Hard Chill a USARA National Championship Qualifier in 2009 since we are dropping it down to a 12-Hour course. A personal feeling that we have at Bonk Hard Racing is that a 12-Hour course should not be a qualifying race for the National Championships. However, we will be hosting 2 races in 2009 that are qualifiers."
I hope that helps.

Reply with quote | #3 | I'm curious if there is ever any kind of weather cut off for the race. I know one year Castlewood was postponed because of the ice. The last couple of days we've been in single digits with wind chill below 0 and that can't be safe for racers. I don't want people answering about how that is part of the adventure, etc. I also know that as racers we have the option of choosing not to compete. I'm just wanting to know if the race directors have any kinds of weather cut offs. |

Seriously though, we have given the weather issue a lot of thought with the Bonk Hard Chill and have developed alternate courses in the case of severe weather. I can't say that we have an actual cut-off temperature to where if it gets that cold we cancel the race. It would more than likely be a decision that was made a couple of days before the race if it appears that conditions would be unsafe for racers.
The reason that we postponed the Castlewood 8-Hour a few years ago wasn't because of the cold weather. It was because the ice was so bad on the Interstates that they shut the interstates down, and people were unable to drive to the race. If the roads had been fine, we more than likely would have hosted that race. It worked out great though because it happened to be a fantastic day on the rescheduled date with temperatures in the upper 50s.
My advice is if it appears that there will be single digit weather with wind chills below 0, and the possibility of precipitation on race weekend, then start checking the updates page on the Bonk Hard Chill website. Otherwise, pack some plastic wrap for your feet, grab your balaclava and plan on doing some racing.
